Overview

MBP has exciting opportunities for project managers with experience in the design and construction of complex facilities that have a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving design and construction problems, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects.  Experience in higher education or healthcare desired.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

Managing projects through planning, scope development, and design phases of project to include coordinating work of various project entities (owner, design professional, users, and related project stakeholders).  Recognized as key client contact point and decision-maker.  Attends client meetings as MBP Representative.  Prepares, monitors, and manages client project schedules and budgets. 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:

Possess a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Planning or related degree. Minimum seven years of related work experience. Knowledge of architectural, engineering and construction technology, theory, practices, and principles. Experience with higher education institutional lab buildings, historic structures, large-scale capital construction programs and project management responsibility. Knowledge of building codes, zoning ordinances and related regulations. Valid Architectural Registration (not required by strongly preferred). LEED certification or the ability to earn LEED certification.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Expertise with MBP's diverse services.  Provides leadership and training to other team members.  Direct client contact and client care.  Operates at level of expert in one or more service areas with responsibility for final work product.

  • Develops long range planning models based on the needs of department and institutional priorities.
  • Provides information and recommendations on physical and comprehensive planning and design issues, large scale planning studies, and special facilities planning topics.
  • Participates in the resolution of planning and technical conflicts and recommends cost effective options and approaches.
  • Ensures that institutional planning objectives and strategies are incorporated into departmental plans and projects.
  • Manages authorizations by preparing succinct presentations that distill complex project issues into distinct, clear options, thereby allowing for informed and timely decision-making.
  • Manages and reviews the progress and quality of the work performed by outside and in-house consultants. Manages the work efforts of external architects and engineers.
  • Acts as the primary contact among project architects, other consultants various building committees, technical and operations groups, and staff members during the planning phase of the project.
  • Provides advice to ensure conformity with specifications, codes, regulations, and University Design Standards. Develops engineering and architectural program requirements.
  • Resolves conflicting issues with consultants, project scope, budgets and schedules. Develops overall project budgets including construction, consultant and other fees, furnishings and equipment, operations and testing costs. Manages the selection of consultants.
  • Verifies projects in the planning phase are completed within the approved budget and schedule, and conform to applicable codes and zoning ordinances.
  • Capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

GUIDANCE/RESPONSIBILITY: 

Generally able to work independently and determine solutions.  Receives overall guidance on emphasis and approach.
