Overview

MBP is looking for an Estimator with significant experience providing cost estimating on vertical and/or horizontal construction projects. Proficient with construction industry cost management software package(s). Additional experience in one or more of the following desired: construction management, CPM scheduling, value engineering, risk management, constructability review, claims analysis, and/or contract administration.

Responsibilities

Main Duties:

  • Performs quantity take-offs, pricing, and estimate deliverable development.
  • Provide program level cost estimating services to support program level schedules, labor projections, and budgeting materials.
  • Performs reviews and analysis of contractor and/or designer estimates, with specific experience in GMP arrangements.
  • Develops and/or reviews change order requests.
  • Assists with development and/or analysis of post-construction cost analyses.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Prepare parametric cost estimates using fully detailed quantities and unit rates, rather than lump sums or cost per square foot values
  • Forecast final quantities and completed project costs at the very earliest project planning and Schematic Design stages
  • Prepare cost estimates using standard templates that are congruent with standard Work Breakdown Structures at detailed unit price levels including maintenance of a written estimating methodology manual and oversight of General Contractors' adherence to the same
  • Prepare regional construction market reports concerning the availability of trade labor and materials, contractor and subcontractor workload, and union participation;
  • Maintain detailed cost data in the Yale University cost database;
  • Perform cost engineering and management services (including detailed unit price estimating) in support of capital project business cases;
  • Perform enterprise and capital program construction cost management services;
  • Support project teams in the execution of project delivery on budget (including EAC – Estimate at Completion – tracking support during preconstruction though construction) including projects using the Integrated Project Delivery approach;
  • Periodically prepare, at Yale’s request, a construction market study that reports on the availability of trade labor and materials, contractor and subcontractor workload, and union participation
  • Draw upon the expertise and knowledge of professionals who are not estimators or economists.
  • Schedulers, risk analysts, construction managers, project engineers, document control analysts, administrative personnel and clerical personnel may be required as consulting and support personnel on “as needed” basis for various cost management projects. These professionals and other workers will act in consulting or support roles when Consultant’s cost management services require input and support from professionals and workers who have expertise or skills in other construction, design, and administrative activities.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in developing cost estimates and project budgeting for facilities envelope, roofing, structural, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Experience with capital asset construction projects and renovation preferred.
  • Experience in reviewing contractor’s price and cost proposals is required.

 Education

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant experience which equates to this degree.
  • P.E. license, Certified Construction Manager, Certified Cost Professional, and/or Certified Estimating Professional certification preferred.
  • Must possess at least one professional estimating certification through at least one of the following: American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) or Chartered Surveyor certification through Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Cost Professional certification through Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE)
