Overview

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:

Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in design analysis, specification review, and on-site field inspection of projects/programs of significant scale. Function as an on-site, electrical engineer performing review of submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings. Possess extensive experience managing and inspecting construction work activities, with demonstrated increasing responsibility.  Experience may be in the following sectors:  federal, industrial, and/or commercial residential. Significant experience in the design and construction of large, multistory buildings including Government facilities and buildings, with knowledge and experience in all phases of a large construction project’s lifecycle.

Responsibilities

DUTIES:  

  • Review the completed and in progress design packages drawings and specifications.
  • Review design bulletins for electrical information communication technology scope, issues, and potential problems and subsequent resolutions.
  • Attend and participate meetings.  
  • Perform daily quality assurance (QA) site visits, both individually and with other members of the Government QA team.
  • Assist in assessing potential risks, materials, and costs.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and as-builts sent by the construction contractor to the Government’s electrical discipline team.
  • Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies that could affect major milestones.
  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Review the DB contractor’s monthly schedule, and provide comments on risks, concerns, feasibility, logic, and sequencing of contractor’s work with a focus on the electrical scope of work.
  • Monitor progress and compile reports in project status.
  • Assist government office engineers in the Contract Administration Section in reviewing contractor’s proposals for contract modifications or Requests for Equitable Adjustments (REAs) that involve electrical ICT work.
  • Researches the proper inspection and construction methods to be prepared for inspection requirements.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with Owner, contractor, designer, and MBP personnel.
  • Provides customer services and good etiquette to the public, adjacent property owners, and other project stakeholders.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Possess a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from a four-year institution recognized by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), and Possess a current electrical engineering professional engineer (PE) license combined with 5 years' experience are required, preferably in the federal sector.

or

  • Possess a current electrical engineering professional engineer (PE) license combine with 10 years' minimum experience in electrical engineering are required, preferable in the federal sector.
  • RCDD certification preferred.
  • Possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have computer skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Email, Internet navigation, web-based tools, and other specialized equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction and inspection materials, methods, and tools utilized in the type of construction, repair, or renovation work.
  • Proficient knowledge of multiple construction operations.

  • Proficiency in all applicable codes and standards for low voltage, IT, and networking.
  • Data networking and cloud computing principles.
  • Telephony systems and principles.
  • Mobile and wireless computing principles (i.e., wi-fi).
  • TV systems (i.e., community antenna television (CATV), master antenna television system (MATV), and internet protocol (IP) and principles.
  • AV systems and principles.
  • Electronic security and safety.
  • Paging systems and sound masking.
  • Design drawings and specifications (i.e., construction specifications institute [CSI] master format).
  • Industry-related and currently used products.
  • Disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC).
  • Impact of converged systems on structured cabling system (SCS).
  • Virtualization impact (i.e., server, network) on structured cabling system (SCS).
  • Electromagnetic interference and compatibility.
  • Physical security concepts.
  • Integrated building technology (IBT).
  • Fiber to the X (any network).
  • The different media types (i.e., copper, fiber, wireless) and converters.
  • Transmission principles and associated electronics.
  • Distributed antenna systems (DAS).
  • System integration.
  • Power over ethernet (POE), POE+, and POE++ technologies.
  • Building automation systems.
  • Pathways and spaces.
  • Passive optical networks.
  • Fire suppression and detection.
  • Knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar.
  • Project management and supervision skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • ability to maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fingerprint-based criminal history background check, DMV driving record check, reference verification, and work history will be required prior to employment.
