Overview

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:

Significant experience with commercial (non-residential) HVAC systems. Experience should include some of the following: design, construction, installation, maintenance, testing & balancing, building automation temperature control systems, functional performance testing, and troubleshooting operational issues. Project or program development in the areas of time, cost and quality management. Must have acted as the lead throughout a minimum of three or more of the following commissioning activities: pre-design, design, construction, TAB verification, functional performance testing, final report. Familiarity with Building Envelope Commissioning processes is required. Minimum of 8 years commissioning experience.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

Project assignments include acting as the lead role and/or overseeing other team members performance of the following: review of the Basis of Design with the Owner’s Project Requirements, developing commissioning specifications, HVAC plan reviews, concurrent review of submittals, on-site representation including monitoring of the installation of construction materials, project documentation of Cx issues, TAB verification and functional performance testing procedures, and the final commissioning report. Represents MBP in analytical and/or field assignments. Troubleshoots existing HVAC and temperature control problems, and able to offer input for saving energy. Communicates clearly and responsibly issues with others (owner, contractor, and MBP team members). Manages mechanical portion of projects, and works with assigned personnel, to meet client’s budget, contract fees, goals, objectives, deadlines. Project and client relationship management. Responds to RFIs in a timely manner. Mentors the professional development of junior mechanical Cx team members. Must work within budgets. Works collaboratively with Human Resources and Branch Management to counsel, train/educate, or empower staff in various areas including, but not limited to, performance and behavior, work environment concerns, training and communications.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Involvement with marketing activities to include business development, networking within professional associations, and active participation in company initiatives. Engagement within a Best Practice Team. Active participation in Mechanical Engineering professional organization.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience which equates to this degree. Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.

One of the following ANSI accredited commissioning certifications: Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), Association of Energy Engineers, Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), AABC Commissioning Group Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), or Building Commissioning Association

Must have knowledge of the commissioning process as defined by ASHRAE Guidelines and Standards and the Building Commissioning Association.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Provide oversight and/or support of Yale’s campus-wide commissioning program.
  •  Ensure the objectives of enhanced commissioning are implemented into each project, as appropriate, to achieve specific project and program goals.
  • Engage with individual project teams to ensure appropriate commissioning requirements are incorporated into solicitations, designs, and construction projects.
  • Review reports and providing feedback to Project Managers regarding proper implementation of commissioning processes.
  • Make recommendations to Program Directors regarding improvements to commissioning processes and procedures.
  • Prepare written materials including standards, correspondence, reports, procedural guides and instructions.
  • Participate actively in the selection of commissioning firms who will be contracted with individual capital projects.
  • Perform other building commissioning support tasks as required

 

GUIDANCE/RESPONSIBILITY:

Works independently with limited direction. Works with, responds to, and takes direction from Senior Project Managers, Person In Charge, Operations Managers, and Senior Management.

 

SUPERVISORY:

Supervises, trains, and ensures quality control of Cx Interns, Cx Technicians, Cx Specialists, Cx Engineers, Lead Cx Engineers, Lead Cx Agents, Senior Cx Agents, Senior Cx Engineers and support staff on individual project assignments.
