Overview

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION: 

Minimum four years of construction work experience and basic understanding of construction means and methods for water and sewer projects.  Experience may be in the following project types:  large diameter water mains, large diameter sewer force mains, gravity sewers, bypass systems, pump stations, SCADA systems, line stops, sewer CIPP rehabilitation, manhole rehabilitation, directional drilling, jack and boring, and micro-tunneling.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Provides on-site compliance inspection, quality assurance, and progress monitoring at construction projects for conformance with plans, contracts, specifications, shop drawings, permits, and applicable codes.
  • Communicates with and advises contractors of work deficiencies and the necessary actions to conform to the plans and specifications.
  • Researches the proper inspection and construction methods to be prepared for inspection requirements.
  • Performs required materials testing when necessary.
  • Review monthly payment applications.
  • Basic understanding of surveying and necessary measurements to check line, grade, and dimensions of pipe installation, structural elements, and advises the contractor of discrepancies.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with agency, contractor and MBP personnel.
  • Assists with final inspections and creation of punchlists and helps ensure all items on the punchlist are completed or corrected by the contractor.
  • Maintains project records including daily diaries which include detailed locations of work, construction workforce, equipment, and materials records, as well as project photos and inspection reports. 
  • Ensures that construction work zones and traffic control devices are in accordance with current standards.
  • Tracks and records materials showing quantities received, used, and tested.
  • Checks materials and documents to make sure that they have been tested, performs testing, or sends additional samples to the client or other testing laboratories for verification of results.
  • Provides customer services and good etiquette to the traveling public, adjacent property owners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Performs various administrative duties to include but not limited to daily timesheet, monthly expense report, and monthly mileage report.
  • Obtains and maintains certifications required to inspect the work for which the Inspector is responsible for monitoring.
  • Participates in company activities, including but not limited to area and company meetings.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of basic mathematics including algebraic, geometric and trigonometric computations based on field measurements.
  • Construction related training and/or experience or course work in utilities construction, civil engineering, project management, or materials, or a combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates ability to perform duties.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools utilized in the type of construction, repair, or renovation work that the Inspector is monitoring and inspecting.
  • Certification(s) preferred by not required from at least one or more of the following: State DOT, NASSCO, WACEL, ICC, NICET, NACE or MARTCP.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to utilize computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Email, construction management software, and Internet navigation and web-based tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and contract specifications for the type of work that the Inspector will be monitoring and inspecting.
  • Ability to communicate inspection issues effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers (i.e., contractors, owners, sub-consultants and fellow team members).
  • Ability to utilize measurement tools effectively for the performance of the inspection duties assigned.  May include levels, measuring tapes, measuring wheels, straight edges and other tools as necessary.
  • Ability to stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel and drive regularly.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fingerprint-based criminal history background check, DMV driving record check, reference verification, and work history will be required prior to employment. Valid driver's license and safety shoes required.
