Experience:
- Significant years of experience in roadway and bridge transportation projects.
- Advanced knowledge and expertise in inspection of bridge construction activities, including pile driving, center of gravity calculations, structural steel installation, calculation of bolsters, inspection of reinforcing steel, dry run inspections for bridge deck concrete placement, and inspection of placement of deck concrete.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of engineering technology and project management.
- Demonstrated inspection and management experience with roadway and/or bridge construction.
- Experience in coordinating inspection duties with multiple simultaneously operating crews.
- Experience tracking daily quantities, completing daily inspection reports, performing monthly estimates, and as-built drawings.
- Evidence of progressive career development.
Education/Knowledge:
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), some technical school.
- Developed advanced knowledge of engineering technology, project management, or construction materials.
- Working knowledge of basic mathematics, including computations based on field measurements.
- Considerable construction-related training (i.e., coursework in road/bridge, construction, civil engineering, project management, or materials testing), or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools utilized in the type of construction, repair, or renovation work that the Construction Inspector II is monitoring and inspecting.
- Knowledge of a full range of construction inspection tasks, ranging from routine to significant complexity.
Preferred Certifications:
- Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Certifications from at least one or more of the following: VDOT as appropriate, WACEL, ICC, NICET, CMAA, ACI, DEQ, or NACE.
- NICET Level III or IV, agency certifications, or advanced qualifications in areas such as surveying, NACE, or MARTCP.
- Additional certifications preferred: CMIT (Construction Manager in Training).
Skills and Abilities:
- Significant specialized expertise with quality assurance and quality control techniques.
- Ability to work independently and handle all aspects of a project, including client interface, technical issues, documentation, and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical supervision and leadership to other inspectors.
- Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues and situations.
- Skilled in progressive client development.
- Ability to identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences.
- Must have computer skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Email, Internet navigation, web-based tools, and other specialized equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and train others.
- Ability to read and interpret plans/contract specifications for the type of work that the Senior Bridge Construction Inspector will be monitoring and inspecting.
- Skilled at applying mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments.
- Communicate inspection issues effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers (i.e., contractors, owners, subconsultants, designers, architects, and fellow team members).
- Obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Travel and drive regularly.
- Solid understanding of MBP's services and applicability to superior construction inspection services, including documentation preparation and control, problem resolution, scheduling, and claims avoidance.
Guidance/Responsibility:
- Receives overall guidance on emphasis and approach from Construction Manager or Project Manager.
- Consistently works independently and determines solutions using independent judgment.
STATUS:
Full-time
The base salary range for this position is $94,200.00 to $133,800.00. Actual compensation will be determined based on work location, qualifications, experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.
